The Dos and Don’ts of Posting About Your Fundraiser on Facebook

The Dos and Don’ts of Posting About Your Fundraiser on Facebook

When posting about your fundraiser on Facebook, it’s easy to focus on the wrong things and create posts that are ineffective (or even harmful) for your organization. Facebook can either be your best friend or your worst enemy — it all depends on creating a good strategy and sticking to a few simple dos and don’ts.

With a little advance planning and some creative thinking, you can reach potential donors and help spread the word about your cause on Facebook. Here are some tips for posting about your fundraiser on social media.

Do: Set up a Facebook page for your fundraiser

Set up a Facebook page for your fundraiser. This will give potential donors a place to learn more about your fundraiser and how to donate. This page should also link to your fundraiser website.

Do: Make posts about your fundraiser

Make sure you’re regularly posting about your fundraiser on social media. This will help spread the word and get more people interested in donating. You can also post about it on your organization’s Facebook page.

Be sure to share relevant information about the good things your nonprofit is accomplishing with the donations.

Do: Create a Facebook event

If you’re holding a local event, create a Facebook event for it. This is a great way to promote the event and get people to donate.

Do: Share your fundraising page with relevant Facebook groups

Get more eyes on your campaign by sharing your fundraising page with relevant Facebook groups. You can search for groups by topic or location to find ones that would be interested in what you’re fundraising for. Remember that each group has its own set of rules, so be sure to read through them before posting anything.

Do: Make sure your posts are clear and include a call to action

Tell people what you’re fundraising for and why it’s important. Be sure to include a link to your fundraising page so people can donate easily.

If you need help coming up with ideas for posts, think about ways to show off your campaign progress, share stories from those who have benefited from your cause, or post updates about upcoming fundraising events. You should also ask questions to get your audience talking.

Do: Get your friends and family involved

Your friends and family are your biggest supporters. They’ll be more than happy to help promote your fundraiser. Ask them to share your posts and spread the word however they can. You should also reach out to any board members or donors and ask them to share your posts on their Facebook profiles as well. The more people who share, the more people you will reach.

Do: Use matching gift programs

If your organization offers matching gifts, be sure to promote that in your fundraising posts. This can entice potential donors to give more money, knowing their donation will be doubled.

Do: Be creative with your posts

Your posts should be eye-catching and easy to read. Use images, videos, or infographics to break up your text and make your posts more engaging. You can also use creative fundraising ideas to spice up your posts and get people talking about your campaign.

No matter what you post, make sure it’s engaging and inspires people to support your campaign! You don’t want to post the same thing over and over again. This gets boring and will cause your fundraiser to lose traction on social media.

Do: Set and share your fundraising goals

Let potential donors know how much money you’re hoping to raise and what the funds will be used for. This helps create a sense of urgency and can encourage people to give. Make sure to share your fundraising goals on social media, on your fundraising page, and in any press releases.

Don’t: Post too often about your fundraiser

While it’s important to share updates about your fundraiser on social media, you don’t want to bombard your followers with too many posts. Stick to 1-2 posts per day, so you don’t overwhelm people and turn them off from supporting your campaign.

Don’t: Come across as desperate or pushy

When posting about your fundraising campaign, avoid sounding desperate or pushy. Avoid asking for donations in every post as this can annoy people and cause them to unfollow your page. Keeping your posting schedule balanced will help you retain followers and supporters.

Instead, take the time to thank people for their support and let them know how much their donation means to you and your cause.

Don’t: Use too many words

When promoting your fundraising campaign on social media, it’s important to be concise. People are more likely to read and share shorter posts, so try to keep your updates brief. Get straight to the point and include a call to action so people know what you want them to do. Use powerful language that inspires people to give.

Use exciting graphics and compelling pictures but avoid covering up those pictures with large amounts of text. Remember, less is more when it comes to fundraising posts on social media!

Don’t: Assume your followers already know about your organization

Just because you’re familiar with your organization’s work doesn’t mean everyone else is. When posting about your fundraising campaign, provide some background information about your cause. This will help people understand why you’re fundraising and how their donation will make an impact. Don’t use any unfamiliar language or acronyms without providing a quick explanation. You don’t want to alienate any potential donors.

Posting on Facebook doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Just remember to be creative, have realistic goals, and use social media to your advantage. With a little planning and effort, you’ll be able to reach your goals in no time.
